Meg's Session Style

I firmly believe that portrait photography is the perfect form of art for your home. Now that you've found my studio, it's my mission to show you how wonderful you and your family will look as art in your home.  Coming to my studio means you get to relax and not stress the little things. You no longer have to worry about waiting in line with five other mothers with their own children in tow…hoping you are called before your two year old totally times out and pulls off her shoes or yanks out her hair bow. However…personally, I love barefoot portraits and all little girls yank out their bows.  No worries, you will never be rushed through your session and there will be time to put that bow back in place.

Before your session, you will have plenty of information at your finger tips from what to wear, things to bring, session tips, to product guides to help you figure out the best display options for your new portraits. You can rest assured that you are in the hands of a professional photographer - not only will I capture your children being natural but I will make you look pretty darn good as well. All this and you will absolutely love your portraits so much so that you might be a bit overwhelmed and not know what do with them. Again...no stress!  It's my pleasure to help you select and design the perfect wall gallery, album or custom image product (I love this part just as much as the photographing!).

What you may not realize is that the “custom” part, is not magic that happens solely based on my skills and artistic talent. It’s the relationship we create together that will truly put the “unique to you” qualities in your portraits. I need to know about you and your family. How you define your style, how you’d prefer to display your portraits, the colors you’ve used in your home, the things that make your kids giggle (or bark/meaow), the activities they enjoy doing, the songs they sing...this list could go on...but I think I've made my point.

This process begins even before your pre-session consult with the information you provide me on the session questionnaire. With that information I have a starting point for your pre-session consult and our photographic journey begins. Reviewing the product guide before our pre-session consult is another step on the path to the perfect portraits. This way you are thinking about what you want to do with the images we will create. I don’t know a single woman that doesn’t enjoy browsing a catalog and day dreaming about owning the items that catch her eye.

If you are wondering how this does me any good ... here is an example:

Session Questionaire - I learn that the session is for your old daughter, who just had her 4th birthday. You have some concerns because every day since her party she had insisted on dressing up in her faire tutu and wearing her princess tiara. However, you love images of the kids just doing their thing on my site and really want some close-up images of her no mater what she is wearing. You don't have a lot of wall space in your living room but are considering smaller wall portraits for other areas of house.

Pre-session consult: While we are talking and you tell me after looking at the product guide that your very favorite boutique item is the Deluxe Storybook Album.  You also mention that you love the look of the swirly style design templates. I ask about the birthday tutu and you tell me about how your daughter is in love with all things purple and ballerina.  At this point I suggest that she wear her new purple tutu during here session. We also plan ahead to use prop elements (some you bring and some I have) that will lend to creating both a Storybook and Designer Wall Portraits with the swirly templates.

When we pre-plan your session – we end up with exactly what your heart desires because we took the time to figure it all out before your session even happens. How does this help you? ...no more stress, we have a plan.
There is no worring you will have to do a last minute mall run to find the right outfit.  All you have to do is relax and follow the plan.

Fast forward to your session:  Your daughter, who has never to this date, behaved for a portrait session is so excited about playing dress-up she is the poster girl of cooperation. She doesn’t even care that Miss Meg is pointing a camera at her (which usually means she’ll do her best to show all her teeth and bug out her eyes) instead she is smiling sweetly!  She is enjoying is so much she starts making up her own poses. Huh? Is this really your child? You betcha! Just when you think she can't throw you for anymore loops...when the session is over…she wants to know when she can come play dress up again and could she pose with the pretty pink umbrella next time? Miracles do happen!
