Wedding Details
Meg has been photographing weddings since 1991. She gives credit to digital technology as the key factor in freeing her artistic vision. "Moving from film to to digital did so much for allowing me follow my creative instincts. I no longer had to worry about running out of film on the wedding day. "
"If I get inspired by the venue, the moment, or light that draws me in: I no longer have that voice in the back of my head asking if I'll have enough film to last until the cake is cut if I take the shot. It's totally liberating."
Meg combines her technical knowledge seamlessly with her artistic sense.
"I love the details...the shoes, the dress, the makeup, the guys helping eachother get those darn ties straight. The flower girl twirling in her fancy dress. All the ladies vying for mirror space to adjust this and that. The rings. The brides lacey things. The groom pacing. The basket of programs. The bouquet. The expressions of emotion when every one sees the bride. The hugs and kisses. The decorations. The cake. The laughing. The dancing. It's all the bride has lived, breathed and thought about for months and I'm there to caputure it. The day is a whirwind of emotion and activity. In the end I want each couple to have photographs that bring it all back detail by detail. So they can remember their day all over again...and again...and again."
The results of Meg's vision are romantic and dreamy portraits that make her brides' ecstatic upon seeing their wedding day images for the first time.
" These are amazing, I never could have imaged we would have pictures like this! Thank you more then I can say. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!" ~ Maaike Metsker Mondi
"Digital has put me in my 'Happy Place' again" says Meg. "While in school earning my BA in Photography I spent hours in the dark room to bring my vision to perfection. At the early part of my career as a photographer (pre-digital) I had to photograph and hand the film over to my lab. Losing that control was hard. With digital, my dark room is back; I just call it my 'Mac room' and I'm in control again. With the amazing advances of today’s software darkroom - I am able to take my vision for a photograph beyond what I ever would have been able to achieve years ago in a traditional darkroom."
Another thing that brings sparkle into Meg's eyes is the changes the industry has seen in presentation options for wedding photography in recent years.
"I'm admittedly a product junky. Today's bride isn’t stuck with a boring matted 8x10 album. She can choose from a list of digitally-driven presentation options. Slide shows of wedding day images, custom-designed style albums, digitally designed collages, personalized save the date and thank you cards. Beautiful portfolio boxes that hold matted prints to rotate for display. Even personalized guest signature books with images from an engagement session...the list goes on and on. The change has mainly come about because professional photographers are moving the industry in a more artistic direction by creating the products that work with our vision. I'm just amazed by all the lovely things I can offer my clients to make their wedding just that much more unique."
When Meg isn't found with camera in hand she spends her time with her husband Jeff and their sons Calum and Aden. "I treasure my family and feel so fortunate to be a part of so many couples' first day as a new family. It's a rewarding feeling every time."
